Cookie Explosion 2001:
We have been contacted by Cst. Redd Oosten RCMP Pembina Valley to participate in a cookie/letter project involving rural elementary students and 1500 UN Canadian peacekeepers presently serving in Bosnia.
It is anticipated that the "Cookie Explosion 2001" would involve the students decorating a small pastry box, writing a simple letter, in addition, they could donate a dozen cookies. The pastry boxes and ziploc bags will be provided.
If you and your children would like to become involved in this project please send a dozen cookies to the school on FRIDAY, MAY 25/01. They will be packaged by the students and some parent volunteers.
If you could volunteer your time for packaging please let us know by phoning the school.
Carman Elementary Physical Activity Event
"Skip to Splash" Pool Fundraiser
Each year we are approached by various outside organizations to involve our students in a fundraising project to help people in need. This year together with our Advisory Council for School Leadership we felt that our own community was in need of help with fundraising for the swimming pool. Therefore, we have planned a "Skip for Splash" Physical Activity Event.
The swimming pool is made use of by many of our students. Our school has been able to use the pool free of charge for a number of years in return for sharing our school facilities with the Carman & Dufferin Commission.
On the afternoon of May 14/01 the grade 1 - 6 students will be divided up into teams to have some fun skipping continuously for a team goal of 200 minutes.
The fundraising part involves our students seeking donations in the form of pledges
for their participation in this activity. The gathering of pledges is strictly voluntary.
Please find enclosed a pledge sheet that your children may use. Names on the pledge sheet can be individual or as a family. We look forward to your participation.
Recycling Plastics Presentation May 31/01
On Thursday, May 31/01, a representative from the Canadian Plastics Industries Assoc. will give a presentation to students in grades 4 - 6 about the recycling of plastics. She will use a variety of demonstrative experiments, as well as a model of an oil spill clean up, to teach our students the benefit of recycling plastics. They will hopefully bring this message home to you and promote the recycling of these products.
Farm Safety:
On April 27/01, Carol Ann Dracass gave a presentation to students in grades 2 & 5 about dangers to be on the look out for on the farm. I understand that this will be an annual project.
Swing Set:
We have purchased a new swing set, but we need some help with putting the set together and installing it. If anyone would be willing to help out on a Saturday, please give me a call. Holes have to be dug in order for the swing to be cemented in.
Respectfully submitted,
William Bunka Principal
