Twin Watersheds site

The Twin Watersheds are two small watersheds adjacent to each other and sharing a common divide. The West Watershed is 4.24 hectares (ha.) or 10.48 acres (ac.). and the East Watershed is 5.64 ha. or 13.94 ac. There are only slight differences in the topography and other physical attributes between them, although the West watershed has a slightly steeper slope. At the outlet of each watershed is a weir where runoff water is monitored and samples are collected for analysis.

Below is the west watershed V-notch weir looking east.

Pristine site (natural wooded area)

This 51 acres or 20.6 hectare natural wooded area (Pristine site) is located in the very upper, most westerly portion of the STC watershed. The watershed at this site has maintained the original natural tree and shrub cover and has not been under agricultural land use.

Highway 240 site - Looking upstream

Miami site and HWY 240 site

These two sites are situated on the main channel of the South Tobacco Creek (STC). The Miami site at the outlet of the watershed has a total watershed area of 7,510 ha. (18,560 ac.). The HWY 240 site is part way down the escarpment on the south branch of the STC main channel. This sub-watershed has a total watershed area of 3,510 ha. (8,670 ac.). The STC runoff contributes to the Tobacco Creek/Morris/Red River watershed systems.
