Dr. Tim Ball to speak at Deerwood's 20th Anniversary Celebration Dinner

October 5, 2004, Miami, MB - The Deerwood Soil and Water Management Association has secured noted climatologist Dr. Tim Ball for a major banquet presentation to be held on the evening of Friday, November 5 in Miami.

Dr. Ball will speak on the topic "Water Management Challenges for Agriculture in Manitoba - Past, Present, and Future" following a buffet dinner of Canadian Roast Beef.

"We are very pleased that Tim is able to be with us again, said Les McEwan, president of the Deerwood Association. "He has been a popular speaker at past Deerwood events, and we hoped he could make it back; we've come a long way since we last saw him," said McEwan, who will also report on several current and developing Deerwood projects.

Tim Ball is a research fellow with the George Morris Centre for Agricultural Policy, and a board member with Agriculture in the Classroom (BC). He is well known throughout Agri-Manitoba from is distinguished career with the University of Winnipeg's Geography department. He is a regular contributor to Country Guide magazine, and he recently been featured in the National Post. Details for the Deerwood event are:

Time: 5:00pm (meet/greet-cash bar); 6:00pm (roast beef dinner-presentation)

Cost: $20 per person, via tickets purchased in advance
(charitable tax receipts for $5 provided for every ticket purchased)

  • Extensive science background in climatology, especially the reconstruction of past climates and the impact of climate change on human history and the human condition.
  • Additional experience in water resources, sustainable development, pollution prevention, environmental regulations, the impact of government policy on business and economics.
  • Chair of provincial boards on water management, environment, and sustainable development.
  • Research Fellow for The George Morris Centre and Board member of Agriculture in the Classroom for the province of BC.
